Is it safe to smoke while taking the pill?

smoke while taking the pill?" /> I smoke about 10-15 cigarettes a day on average, and made an appointment to get birth control. I'm not sure if I should go with the pill or shot. With the pill, I can start whenever I'm ready, but with the shot, I'm worried it may affect my body since I'd be getting it the second week of my cycle.

I know lots of women my age (early 20's) who smoke much heavier than I do, and take the pill. I'm just looking for personal experiences, whether it be a smoker taking the pill or someone who's had the shot.

My doctor told me it can increase the chances of getting a blood clot. I still smoked when I was on the pill in high school. But now that I am 19 and actually taking care of my body more I quit smoking. If you want to smoke thats fine but I wouldn't recommend it.  Hope this helped. :)

I'm a heavier smoker than you are and I've had no problems on Nuvaring. I would definitely consider Nuvaring as an option, I love mine!

I smoked while on the pill and I never had any problems or concerns with it. The bc works the same as it would even if you dont smoke while taking it.

I think smoking affecting your period/pill is the last thing you would need to worry about, think outside the box.
