What do you guys think about the axe commercials? The parent company of axe is the same one of Dove. Lower on the picture it says "stop being a friend and be a man". Ugh. Over sexualizing women and telling guys they aren't men. Thoughts?

Unilever is the giant multinational parent corporation. They own many product lines....Axe, Dove, Ben & Jerry's, Hellmann's, Lipton, Breyer's, Knorr, Tresemme, Suave, and many others.

For those of you thinking they are hypocrites for the contradiction between the Dove and the Axe promotional messages, they are, but it's called 'market segmentation' in marketing and it's a very popular branding strategy. The target market for Dove wants to feel acceptance and empowerment, so that's what Dove products communicate. The target market for Axe wants to feel macho and sexy, and so that's what Axe products communicate.

Lesson: Always be critical of promotional messages. Never start feeling warm and fuzzy and loved by a corporation until you do your own research on their true motivations first.

Sex sells now days, its a sad world that something has to have killing, naked girls, or sex to sell. It annoys me how companies use sex to push their product, and this generation eats it up.

I've known this for a while (thank you Hank Green), and it's pretty disgusting, but even so, it doesn't come even close to the degradation and scuzz seen in Carl's Jr adverts.
