It's a form of autism. But I wouldn't necessarily say a disability. My best friends son has it and he is a completely normal, functioning 12 year old boy. He is very intelligent and does very well in school. Look it up online and you can find more info about it.

It's not a disability it's a form of autism , people with aspergers have a very very hard time socially they can function pretty well on their own in their own environment but struggle socially , I used to live in shared housing when I had my son at 17 I had upstairs flat he had downstairs or was like a house split in 2 he had gas and electricity controls in his flat my lord he was a pain at first ! he had aspergers he kept his flat lovely cooked cleaned and everything but he didn't like to hear me walking about upstairs or my son screaming in the night , he used to post me letters in a very old English context that was the only he would communicate , he grew quite fond of me actually as at first he was calling me the sinner upstairs ! and he used to flick my electric on and off all the time instead of just telling me to be a bit quieter ! he was very complex and it was hard to deal with but I'm using that as an example to show just how difficult it is for people with aspergers to communicate

It is a social learning difficulty. I work with kids who have Aspergers and other social learning issues, and they are really neat kids! Most kids with Aspergers lead a totally normal life and can take care of themselves, they just may have trouble with social skills such as: eye contact, body proximity, taking turns, and staying on topic.

What is the reason you are asking?  I work with kids on the spectrum. Asperger's isn't a diagnosis that is necessarily given anymore. They replaced it with something else since the children are so much more high functioning than children with typical autism spectrum disorder. Look it up thoigh, it is actually quite interesting.

People with aspergers are so interesting. I have met a lot of geniuses that have aspergers. I would say Sheldon on the big bang theory is a pretty good act of what a person with aspergers can be like. Some things like sarcasm will not be picked up. But there's even different levels of aspergers although its the mildest form of ASD. The other end of the spectrum is a form if autism that acts like schizophrenia. Then the worst is one where their body starts disintegrating and they die quite young. All fit under the umbrella form of ASD but they all are very unique.

I applaud you all for not looking at it as a disability, but it is one. It's more than a social issues as well. My son is 8 and has autism or more specifically persuasive developmental disorder. He does have the social aspects of not understanding emotions, can't figure out how to communicate with his peers, and he even has issues with his school work. He can do multiplication and division but he struggles with writting. This disability requires many hours of therapy, huge family involvement, and patience. I do hope that one day my son will be able to live alone and function with society, but at the same time I see his struggles and I know how hard it is for him.

It's a social disability, my son who will be 25 was diagnosed with this when he was about 8, they then changed the name to pervasive developmental disorder. It is high functioning autism. He had a hard time kids were mean they didn't understand it  nor did the school officials he was bullied alot. Research it and I hope the best for you and whomever is dealing with this.

More like a learning difficulty, even though people with Aspergers function fine, they just have social problems so they find it difficult to make friends and understand social interactions.

It's a form of high functioning autism. Children with aspergers deal with social situations differently. They are very literal in their understanding of the world and obviously there's much more to it but no it's not a disability per say. It's just another way some people are different than others.
