Are OPKs necessary?

We're starting TTC again in a few months and I want to make sure my fertile window is as accurate as possible, but we're also saving up for a house/maternity leave and I've heard OPKs can get expensive, and they look confusing. How important is it to use them?

Amazon sells bundles of strips and they are super cheap. No need to buy the drug store brand.

I was using just timing (like glow, other apps) for 5 months. This month I started OPK and discovered we've been BDing at the wrong time! But if you don't want to shell out for the strips, I've heard charting BBT and checking your cervix (position, mucus, etc) is at least as helpful. Started BBT this month too and I wish I'd done it sooner, but can't speak about the cervical stuff since mine's too deep to get a good read on and doesn't make a lot of mucus anyway.

Def get the strips from amazon. They are super cheap and you can use 2 a day no problem so you don't miss your window.

If your cycles are pretty regular id use them just once so youll know what day you ovulate give or take. I tried doing it without but my cycles are long34-40 days and a little irregular. I just bought opks for the first time(this is my 4th month ttc) to make it easier on myself.

Good tool to use for a few months to see how regular you are.  If you have regular cycles then you can base it off what you learned from your opks.  Some use dollar store ones....comments on that?
