Any woman from Alaska?

Question

Planning on moving there after I get my RN degree!! Any ladies that can tell me about it ?!?

I was a California girl, but got used to the cold pretty quickly. Coldest winter I've felt was -46 degrees, but to me, after -20, everything just feels numb haha. I'll take freezing cold over hot, any day!!! There wasn't much to do in the North Pole/ Fairbanks area, at least not compared to California. If you're moving to Anchorage, you'll have so much more to do and it'll be a little bit warmer there. Alaska is absolutely beautiful and I now consider it to be home even though I had to move across the country, I will return. :) summers don't get too hot, but after a long long period of cold temperatures, and snow, they feel awesome! Getting comfortable driving in snowy conditions, and when the roads are icy takes some getting used to, it was really scary to me, not because I didn't know how to, but because I've encountered some of the most reckless drivers ever in Alaska. Crazy. I had to drive nearly 30 minutes to get to school and during the winter I felt terrified for my life! You have to plug your car in when it gets really cold to ensure that it runs in the morning. Hmm,  Mosquitos were terrible in my area, it was often joked that they were the "state bird" :0 haha. I couldn't go outside (even with bug spray) without coming back covered in bites (unless I layered up in winter clothes, which nobody wants to do in the summed/ spring) So if you're allergic like I am, that's definitely something to keep in mind. The scenery is unlike anything you'll ever experience; trees, mountains, snow, sun, moose, green green grass, foliage, the northern lights (breath taking). Denali national park is worth visiting many times :)
I'm sorry this is long, I'm just getting very reminiscent on memories. I wish you the best if you do end up having the privilege of moving to that great state!

I lived in North Pole, Alaska for 3 years and plan to move back eventually. Probably to anchorage, though. :) I FELL IN LOVE with with the state, I never knew one place could feel so much like home. I miss it everyday and can't wait to be back.
