Im from the uk and as you know we have the NHS me and my parter was having a discussion on how your health insurance works and we sort of understand but can you explain to me in more depth like cost? What if you dont have insurance and does your work pay? And to be covered buy everything is that really expensive or is it just the rich that get that????

The more money you make the more expensive. I have a great job but I don't get insurance through them. Sometimes it's not worth it. Also, it all depends on of your job offers benefits. Most the time you're only eligible if you're a full-time employee. I am not, so I'm not elegible through my work.

It can be really complicated. We now have the Affordable Healthcare Act that allows those in poverty to get healthcare by expanding our medicade (government health care) program. Several states fought it and those states now have no care for their poor plus those unlucky individuals pay a fine for not having care. 
Most people that work at least 35 hours a week have access to insurance through their employers plan. These plans vary greatly in cost and coverage. I pay $130 per month to cover myself & husband for medical,vision, and dental. Our coverage allows us to see our choice of doctors for $20. All preventative dental care is free.  All vaccinations are free. One set of eyewear per year is free. All other services are discounted. Prescriptions cost $4-50 depending on the drug.
I admit, my plan is better than many Americans, partly because I am employed by a major healthcare provider.  
I spent 9 years in poverty without health care. Independence clinic that provided basic services based on my income. When I needed emergency service, thy cared for me but I left with thousands of dollars in debt that I could not pay.  This is very common for our poor and costs our country a lot of money.  Until we all have coverage that we can afford, many people don't see doctors or get medications.  As a nurse I have seen deaths related to lack of healthcare.

I'm not sure exactly how the affordable healthcare act we have going works because I've always been covered by my employer. Im a teacher and we are famously underpaid here in America but the one good thing we do get is great medical coverage. Teachers have their own labor unions that typically cover all costs to buy in in exchange for your union dues. The two kinds of insurance plans you can have here are PPO and HMO, PPO gives you more freedom in terms of the doctors you can choose but you have a deductible amount to reach before things get 100% covered. I've always had an HMO that forces me to go to only doctors within my HMO "group" and requires referrals and authorizations to see any new specialist or have most things done but aside from a small copay, typically no more than $20, I pay nothing else out of pocket. For example, giving birth in a hospital can get pricey with a PPO, there's almost always a bill for thousands after, but with my HMO I will pay for nothing except parking at the hospital 😊
Not all HMOs and PPOs have the same amount of coverage though, it just depends how much your employer picks up and what the scope of coverage is. My husbands labor union covers some of his costs but he pays more out of pocket for coverage then I do. This is all for just medical too, vision and dental are usually seperate plans, again I'm lucky to have those paid for as well.

My husband and I are both self employed. We live in New Jersey. Our Heath insurance costs us over $1000. per month. The plan we have does not cover a lot for the out of pocket cost. 
The affordable care act is not helpful for us. The new law has had a negative affect on us. Our combined income is not above 75,000.

I appreciate the NHS but don't know how much more it can take as its not in a good place rite now but think every human should have the rite for free medical care! If your wealthy or not

My husband and I work for the state(at a hospital/university) and our insurance is free through work. I think I pay for dental and that's it. Our insurance is amazing. Best I've ever had. I have to get a crown placed and instead of $1000 it would have been with the last insurance I had it's like $350 with this one. It's only costing me $500 to have my baby and that covers the whole pregnancy and hospital stay. Specialty care(endocrinologist) is a little more due to obvious reasons, extra diseases are extra expensive lol maybe one day it'll resolve(hypothyroidism). We do PPO.
