Hypothyroidism !?

I went in today for my 12 week check up and the doctor put me on meds for hypothyroidism. I'm a bit concerned because my last blood draw was 1/20. Seems my levels were not out of the labs normal range, but elevated for pregnancy. I've done some reading and apparently it most effects the baby during the first trimester. Has anyone had this?!

I've had hypothyroidism before pregnancy and your dose naturally needs to be increaesed when you carry a baby. Your body requires more of the hormone during pregnancy. I hadn't heard that the first trimester is the most crucial but it seems right since your baby develops so much then! I had to get into see an endocrinologist to check my levels because my ob honestly didn't know much about it. Call your dr right away if you feel any symptoms, the right medicine should take care of them! You'll need to get your levels checked pretty often. A lot of preggo's deal with thyroid issues. Are you on Synthroid? I hope this helps!

So pre pregnancy it was 2.45. Six weeks into pregnancy it was 3.85. Six weeks later they put me on meds and said it needed to be around 2.5 during pregnancy, even though I was in the normal range. So I asked why they didn't put me on it six weeks ago and why they aren't testing my blood. They can't tell me a thing, but retested my blood and it's at 2.89 and I've only taken the medicine twice. Not sure what will happen, but thank you for easing my mind! I'm already on three asthma medications, so it's just concerning to to add another medication.

I have no thyroid (was removed due to thyroid cancer). I have been taking Synthroid ever since. I am currently pregnant with my 2nd and my levels were ideal at first but a few weeks later my TSH jumped so I am hypothyroid and quite miserable. I had to call my endo to get my synthroid dosage adjusted. I have to be checked every 6 weeks. I believe it's critical to have optimum thyroid levels throughout the pregnancy but ESP in the beginning. I spoke with my doc today during my appointment and he told me that it affects the baby's growth, brain, and even IQ. So if you are questioning your thyroid functions, speak with your doc about your concerns.
