What do you feel about LBGT rights?

My husband and I were discussing it and we have vastly differing opinions. Kinda shocked me what he really thinks about it. (I won't say which way so as not to skew the results)

I support human rights in general. People should be able to marry whothehellever they wanna marry. And nobody's religion should have any bearing on someone else's life.

Completely. However I would also like to point out that yes, LGBTQIA+ rights are in fact human rights, but let's not forget that there is more to it than just the right to marry. LGBTQIA+ rights doesn't end at getting married. It means equal job opportunities, housing, healthcare, etc without discrimination, harassment, or assault. It ALSO includes the right to simply visibly exist without discrimination, harassment, or assault. It ain't just all about pretty weddings and heartwarming proposal videos.

I didn't make a choice to fall in love with a girl..
But I did. 
And I would do it all again if given the choice. 
I deserve the right to marry her. I deserve to be able to hold her hand in public without being afraid of people judging us. I deserve to be viewed as a human.

The government should have no say in what constitutes a marriage contract (however, let's keep it to two consenting adult humans). I'm a devout Christian and in my belief system marriage is a man and a woman...butttt why should my belief be the only one Americans have to live by in our "free" country?! In my field marriage contract is a huge deal legally because of advanced directives and end of life decisions. In the state of Texas and most other states the person who decision making power defaults to if you haven't appointed a medical power of attorney is your LEGAL SPOUSE. The state of Texas doesn't recognize civil unions in this case so the next on the ladder is the adult children (which Gay couples don't often have because our adoption system sucks and that's a whole different soap box) and then the parents. So parents who have disowned their gay children are the ones legally given decision making power instead of a person who has spent a lifetime devoted to them. I don't care what belief system you're a part of- that's not okay.

I voted other. I don't agree that the government should be able to control society based on religious beliefs, IE gay marriage against the law because it's not "true marriage" based on religion, however I do feel that "true marriage" in the eyes of God is between a man and a woman. So I just wouldn't vote at all if I had the opportunity.

I'm in support of state's right to vote for or against such things. That way each community develops the way they want. It's sad that not everyone can agree but I think that's the best solution :-)

I am neutral. I don't support it but I also don't fight it. It's not my life, not my choice. But I'm not going to go out and rally around pretending I think it's ok. I have plenty of gay friends and I have zero issues with that. I'm just not going to fight for rights for something that has nothing to do with me
