Do high waist shorts make you look younger?

I walked into Hy-Vee to do my grocery shopping today, and when I got to the counter, and asked for a pack of cigarettes. The clerk was kind of snooty and asked me for my ID. I'm 22 so I can understand that. But when she seen that, she said 'uh wow those shorts make you look really young' 
I guess I just want you guys' opinions.

I think I've only seen teenagers wear high waist shorts bc it seems to be in style for that age, so I can see why the clerk thought you were younger.
