IUD Effectiveness / Other Possibilities

Tristin • 08/29/15 - I married my sweet love

My boyfriend and I are starting to plan our future together, and part of that is, of course, what form of birth control we will use when we are married.

We're leaning towards an IUD for me, because we don't really wish to use condoms per our preferences and I'm allergic to latex so it would be more expensive.

What are the general pros and cons? Which is more effective, the hormonal or the copper? Does it interfer with sex (is it far down enough for the string to be felt - I know you're supposed to check yourself often)?

I also heard that it is more effective for women who have already had children, and I am a virgin. Should this affect my decision?
