IUD as birth control?

Question

I was thinking about getting a non hormonal IUD put in as my body doesn't work well with pills and hormones, anyone have this in? Is it painful? I'm sexually active but I'm only 18 so I'm unsure!

You can get an IUD regardless of whether or not you have had children. I have done enough research on IUDs to write a short book, and I know for a fact you don't need kids to get an IUD. Two of my friends have the non-hormonal IUD, and neither one has children.

I had my daughter in 2009 and had Mirena for 5 years. I never used any other method of birth control (besides the 2 years I just wasn't having sex) and it was 100% effective. I still only have 1 little girl lol.

I don't think you're doc would let you if you haven't been pregnant. Your uterus might not be big enough for it yet. I had the mirena and didn't have periods for 6 years. It was amazing! But the other would be to have the stint implanted in your arm....I've heard that it's not a bad way to go but you could experience spotting.

I have the Nexplanon arm implant, if I was you I'd look into maybe getting his that. I was considering an IUD because that's what my sister-in-law got after she had my nephew and she am says she loves it. But when I talked to my doctor about it as an option there were some facts that she listed that lead me to choose an arm implant BC instead. 
The two main things I was told:
In women who have not yet had children the IUD has a slightly higher risk because there has never previously been an object of any kind in the uterus and therefore your body is more likely tot try and expel the IUD. I was also informed that because the cervix is not at all stretched like in that of women who have given birth that installing the IUD would be a much more painful process.

I have Mirena which is low dose. It hurt so bad to get it put in. Nothing much since the first three months though.

The other would be to try the Nuvaring for a couple of months. Pills didn't sit well with me and upset my stomach really bad so I went back to the ring and I've never had a problem with it. Leave it in for 3 weeks, take it out the 4th week and put a new one in after that week is up. It shouldn't effect your bf either. It would be the same as a reverse ribbed condom.
