Is 16 too young to get engaged?

I got engaged at 17 and married at 18......left my husband at 21 because we just grew apart. We were going two separate ways....I wanted to go to college and have a career and he didn't want me to. We just didn't work out....i would finish high school and go to college if you want before getting married....being engaged at 16 is basically like a promise ring for the future. Nothing wrong with it. Just make sure that the two of you are going in the same direction with life before you decide to tie the knot.

It's very cliché but try not to focus so much on your age and his! Imagine you were both say 5 years older and he asked you, what would you say? It's all about how you feel! My advice is to listen to your gut feeling. X

Honestly it all depends on maturity level and how long you have been together, although that varies with every couple. If you feel like you will for sure marry this man then go ahead and be engaged. But if there's any doubt, tell him and discuss with him that you'd like to wait a little bit longer.

At that age you are still discovering yourself and it might not be a good idea to legally bind yourself to someone when interests change soo much as you grow. If you are that serious about him, seriously date him for more years until you are done with college or whatever it is you plan for. If youd want to marry him then you should be ok to just date him for a couple years, that way if you do change your feelings then you can get out of the relarionship without the mess of divorce.

I have changed alot since I was 16. Chances are you and your so will change quite abit also. 
I thought I was with a guy I would end up marrying at that age but ended up not working out. Now I'm 20 in a relationship with a guy who I think is perfect but still going to wait at least another year before even thinking about it. (But if he wasn't right for me I wouldn't be with him)

My roommate last year dated a guy for 7 years throughout middle school and highschool and they broke up before college (she was also psychotic). Everyone thought they were going to get married and have 20 kids and live on a farm. But they just grew up. (One of them did at least).
