What would you do?

My DH and I were talking about when we have children. And the subject of reglious beliefs came up. We are not reglious, he doesn't believe in anything. I hope there is something but what I do not know. Would it be best to tell children there is a heaven so they would not have a fear, or to give them closer when somebody passes. Or should you tell them what you really believe? Which would do the opposit?

You can explain all belief systems to your child, yours included, and tell them it's their right to choose what they want to believe.

I will tell my children there is a heaven ( I'm not religious) until they reach a certain age where they are more capable and able to choose their own beliefs. At a young age a kid will just believe whatever their parents do. My mother told me about death when I was 5 and that when we die were just gone and I had anxiety and panic attacks for all my life and horrible fear of death till this day. Let a child believe in something while they can they will grow up and face the cruel work soon enough.

Being inconsistent and not passionate about spirituality will only cause more uncertainity in a child. How would you feel about bringing your child to church and letting them learn and decide for themselves, while being honest that you are uncertain and don't know, but that y'all will figure it out together?

Its kind of like Santa, its just something that children believe when they are little, and as they grow and mature they figure out on there own.

I'm an eclectic spiritual pagan and Husband is a bitter cynical atheist. He is very absent in any discussion about spirituality with the children, but he also doesn't tear me apart in front of them. He does dissuade the kids from blind faith on someone else's word, and I fill in the blanks with options that they look into. Bottom line we push is to be a good human, and seek to better yourself and your surroundings. Our eldest has started stepping towards Christianity, and the youngest hasn't decided yet.

You can tell them only what YOU belief - because children get it anyway when you are lying.... When your children are older, maybe about 12-14 years you can tell them different opinions.
