Baby sling?

Question

Does anyone use a sling to carry their baby? I have seen the ring slings and wrap slings. Which do you prefer and why? I am thinking about getting one but am not sure how easy or safe it is.

You can absolutely wear older babies in slings. It may not be as comfortable for log periods, but they are usually less expensive. I like my maya wrap ring sling, but I prefer the Moby for the first six months, and I also use an Ergo. Look for baby wearing international groups near you, because borrowing wraps/carriers is an amazing option if you are interested in baby wearing. I also see a lot of people wearing babies unsafely. It is nice to have support of people who can help teach proper baby wearing safety.

I asked my friends the same question because I'm a FTM and they all told me to go with a wrap not a sling. The wraps are better on your body and back and you are able to carry your baby longer (only newborns in slings) plus it is safer because you can wrap them up in multiple ways.

I learned recently that my area has a baby wearing group that lets you borrow wraps, slings, and carriers to see if you like them. Worth checking to see if your area has one too. Or might ask at other moms groups if you can swap carriers to try others.

I just found a baby wearing group in my area that is run by a sling shop. Was totally surprised since my state ( DE) is SO backwoods and I usually have to go out of state to find stuff. Thanks everyone for all your help! I have a ton of questions I'll be asking there and am able to try on different types of slings.

The maya ring sling is incredible and convenient for the first 6 months! We love woven wraps too, but hated the moby. Especially in the summer. It was AWFUL.
