When should newly-borns be bottle fed ??

Pros and cons of bottle feeding????

I didn't produce enough milk to breastfeed my daughter. I dried up after the first month.

We started bottle and formula feeding her when she was around 2 months old. She never had any problems.

I learned from my breastfeeding class that the recommended time to start introducing the bottle is around 4 weeks if possible.

I was told to wait until at least 3 weeks or until baby has a really good latch every time she feeds. If you do it too soon, it can mess with breastfeeding. On the other hand, do it before 8 weeks to ensure success in bottle feeding.

Whenever you decide to start. It's all based off what mom wants and stuff. It would be easier for her to pump and dad to bottle feed if mum went shopping or out for lunch as a pro. Or if mum was to sleep through the night and dad did night time feedings once in a while that's another pro. I'm not sure about any cons because my son was bottle formula fed because I had some issues with breastfeeding and it was better for our mental/physical health and sanity for my son to go on formula. We started to bond easier and I was happier. It's completely a personal choice on if you want to start bottle and breast feeding at the same time. There may a bit of issues once in a while but those may be easy to overcome. It's all a learning experience for new parents and every child and every parent is different and what works for someone may not work for you.

I don't think there's a good time or a bad time. My milk didn't come in till 5 days after he was born and he couldn't latxh on so iv been pumping since and giving him a bottle. Gave him formula till my milk came in

I had to bottle feed my son from birth and I was so disappointed that I couldn't Breast feed. I did the playtex bag bottles because I knew there was no air and I loved the easy cleanup. I also used similac sensitive until he was 6 months and than I switched to similac advanced. My next baby I am hoping to be able to Breast feed for the first six weeks not just for the nutrition but also for the money saving since I'll be home anyways.

A downside I see to Breast feeding is that unless I buy a pump (which I don't plan on doing) I will be the one getting up everytime my baby needs feelings. Whereas with the bottle my husband and I took turns.

A plus side to bottle feeding is that I didn't have to worry so much about what I ate (I love me some jack in the box tacos but their not healthy) and I didn't have to worry about those horror stories where the boob clogs up.

I'm not sure which is better bottle or breast I guess I'll find out when I try with this baby.
