Will you have your son circumcised?

I'm curious to see how many parents are for and against circumcision. My husband isn't circumcised but wants our son to be just so he isn't made fun of. A silly reason if you ask me! My opinion is if God wanted men with no foreskin he'd of made them that way! I don't understand how people say it's "cleaner." What's clean about an open wound in a diaper filled with feces and urine?! And the foreskin can't even be pulled back until puberty so how can germs get under it?

I feel the need to post this, as some commentators are being rude towards those with differing opinions. I am personally for circumcision for my son due in August, and he will have it done. That does not make me a horrible mother now am I mutating my child. To the woman who commented that is just the same as female circumcision in other countries, please realizr that is not true. I am circumcising my son when he is a day old, thus he will not remember it or the pain that newborns quickly get over. Female circumcision in other countries are circumcised at puberty thus they remember everything and the pain is much more. If you do not believe in circumcising your son, that is your own personal decision and I am not being disrespectful towards that. I am not going to tell another mother what is right or wrong for her son. I am choosing circumcision because I of hygiene reasons for my son and because it is something I believe is right for him. While those saying if you just teach your son good hygiene then infections will not become a problem are technically correct. When the child becomes older they don't want mom to help them clean or make sure they get everywhere washed, thus infections can arise. Why can't we all just be accepting of the fact that we have differing opinions rather than trying to tell one another why the other is wrong. I have stated why I believe in circumcision in a respectfuk way and have not bashed other mother's for their beliefs. Instead of being hateful, we could learn differing opinions and talk with one another as mom's to little boys! Just keep things respectful ladies (from both sides regarding this subject)!!

Hi Amanda. I'm in the UK where it's not even offered to parents but I am originally from Canada where it's still pretty common so I decided to do a bit of research and found this article very useful:

I would encourage those who think either a) it's cleaner, b) it prevents diseases c) their kid will be the only one to be uncut and will get laughed at and d) it's weird if they're not like daddy to read this article.

Debunked a whole lots of myths for me. You should get daddy to read it if you can. Medical and general opinion seems to be changing on this one.

I am a devout Christian but I am still going to get my little boy due in August circumcised. I can understand why you do not want to get your little one circumcised and completely respect your decision. What helped me come to my decision was talking to my baby's paternal grandmother (way before I found out I was pregnant). She did not get my baby's father circumcised nor his brother and she told me if I ever had a boy I should really consider circumcision because she regrets not doing it. She stated that while potty training her boys would not properly wipe or clean themselves while in the shower and her youngest ended up with a small infection (please no one say she's a bad mother for this happening bc things like this do happen at no fault to the mother). It's the mother's personal decision, I just know I will feel more at ease with him being circumcised and it will calm some of my nerves haha. Granted I am scared of hurting my little man while changing the dressings but I am sure him and I will figure things out together(: Congrats on your little one!!

I have been so upset about this because my husband is insisting he will get made fun of and it's the worst decision to not circumcise. First of all- it's not as common as it used to be, second of all- let's be real. We ALL will get made fun of for something growing up. Could be our hair, our weight, our teeth, our clothes- whatever. I do not want to permanently alter my son's penis just so he can "look like everyone else". I want to teach him to be confident and to be him, whatever that looks like! And the whole "looking like dad" argument is laughable. If my vagina looked like my moms....I probably WOULD have gotten made fun of lol! Sorry but 70's bush and circumcision is just not as "popular" as it used to be 😎 I am not interested in me OR my kids being popular anyway. He will be awesome no matter what❤️

It is considered cosmetic in my province (canada).

Many of my friends had their sons circumsized, to match their fathers.

I don't really care.

Please don't throw silly stats about stds and "cleaner".

Girls learn to wipe and clean themselves properly, as do boys. Infections happen to circumsized boys too.

If it were truly "cleaner" or preventative it would be a procedure covered - and it is covered if it is needed- 1 of 6 boys I know needed it because his dad had same issue of being too tight. His was covered by my country's health care system.

Anyway. My son will not be circumsized. Mostly because his dad isn't... 
If it's your families choice I circumsize, go ahead, but please don't try and justify it with out dated skewed studies. Or some article you read in Facebook.

I have a lot of friends try and convince me to circumcise my son when he's born. My husband and I already made the decision not to, so I just listen politely. I'm sure moms who want to have it done have their reasons, and that's a ok, no judgement there at all. Anyways,I think you're right, children will always find a reason to pick on each other, this shouldn't neccisarly be a reason to get the procedure done.

You can tell your husband that your kid won't be made fun of whether he's cut or not...only about half the boys get circumcised so half the other half of the boys won't be cut either. As for infection, the foreskin tends to harbor bacteria because it's a warm, moist, dark spot that bacteria enjoy procreating in. This causes an increase in urinary tract infections, as well as skin infections (like staff) which is already normally present on the skin (transferred from hands and touching other body parts). It is what it is...I honestly believe if a child is taught proper hygiene, it's a non-issue. Good luck!

Do some research. I watched a special on this on "The Doctors"
recently and learned quite a bit. Defiantly way better for baby to get circumcised.  One fact that surprised me most was uncircumcised men have a much higher rate of having std's bc the foreskin will collect bacteria which causes these diseases!  You might be able to YouTube that episode. Very informative!

Something to consider: some states are considering it a cosmic procedure therefore you will pay out of pocket for it.! Its about $200+ in our state. We've researched a little and will continue to do so before making our decision.

How about the simple fact of cutting away a piece of a child's body that he was born with? I don't understand that, it's so simple. Why is it okay to remove a portion of a body part. And please don't say "hygiene". It is simple to teach a child how to clean his body, we do the same for females.
