Brown spotting

I was due to start my period last Tuesday. That came and went. My husband and I have been trying to concieve for about 3 years now. We did the baby dance while I was ovulating. I still haven't started my period but a few days ago I had a small amount if brown discharge. I don't want to take a test yet only to be disappointed again. How long should I wait? Maybe I could be pregnant?
