When/How to tell Big Brothers/Sisters?

I have an 8 year old son from a previous relationship. He's always been a little anxious about me being pregnant because of a previous illness (pre-eclampsia). 
My husband and I want to make it fun and exciting for all of us. 
Any tips???

Have him write letters to his new sibling, and let him help picking stuff out decorations, just let him feel apart of a lot of it.

My son is 7 and I'm finally pregnant with his first sibling. Every start of our new week we sit down and read what the baby is doing this week, how big he or she is, and talk about all the different changes going on. We look at pictures of what the baby should look like for that week. He feels "in the know" and part of the experience and that makes him appreciate it so much more. It is great knowing he will remember this time in his life even in adulthood.

Buy him a shirt that says big brother or a trophy that says best big brother and wrap it up and have him open it

I made a scrapbook for my daughter that began with me and my husband's wedding.  I narrated her birth, and birthdays, and her accomplishments.  I left blank pages at the end for her to add pics of her and the baby.  She loved it. We gave it to her on Christmas Eve.
