Social work or nursing?

Question

Ok so I love both majors and I really can't decide. I always used to want to be a social worker til probably my senior year of high school I gained interest in nursing.  I'm now a sophmore  and I like nursing but I'm worried I'm not as passionate about it as I should be.  However when I've told some people about it they say social workers don't make any money. To be honest I don't really care about being rich I just want enough to be comfortable.  The money doesn't bother me but I don't want people looking down on me I think social work is a beautiful profession.  Nurses make more money and I think I would love maternity nursing I'm just so torn any opinions are welcome and appreciated

Thank you everyone for your responses.  So I went to the college that has a social work degree in my area and they are pretty much very strict when it comes to transfer credits so even though I'm a sophmore it would take me 4 years to graduate from there. So I'm gonna keep on with the nursing :)

I wonder if you could do a 2 year nursing degree and work while getting your MSW? If you have any interest in being a hospital social worker (they are amazing - I am a med student and sometimes wish I could be them instead) it would be a good combination in terms of helping you understand what's going on clinically. Nursing has a lot of ways to go in all kinds of different directions so from that perspective it is a great field to start in if you're not exactly sure what you want to do yet.

If you're not sure, maybe look into something like medical assisting. It's a two year degree and it gets your foot in the door to see if the medical field is something that you're passionate about

I was in the same position and I chose to try medical assisting because I get to interact with people and still be able to help them in some way

Honestly, it depends all on what you want. If you'll be happier in social work, do that. I know a huge problem where I live (and go to school) is that there are soooooo many people going to school to be a nurse, is there really any job security with that? I'm not sure if it's the same as where you live.. But I'd look into job prospectives too!

You need to do some volunteer work with both and base your decision off of what you experience rather than fantasize and come up with your answer that way.
