Anyone on it and having to ween off? If so, any recommendations?

What about melatonin? It's a natural, nonaddictive...hormone; I think...your body already produces. I'd talk to my doc about that.

I was only on 5 mg. I didn't take  it daily like every 2 to 3 days. I ran out when I found out I was pregnant  and didn't refill. I was sleeping ok without anything up until a few nights ago. I'm 11 weeks now. Sleep is becoming difficult.

I'm trying to get off ambian. I'm down to 5mg. I was at 10 for 8 years. I tried pharmaceutical grade melatonin and itade me wake up with panic attack symptoms in the early morning. I basically taking Ambian and benedryl.

Zolpidem, a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic, has been rated by its manufacturer as Category B. However, there are no reports describing its use during pregnancy. In animal studies of zolpidem, no teratogenic effects have been observed, but very high doses have been associated with toxic effects resulting in problems with ossification of the skull or other bones.

I took it up until I found out at 4 weeks. I was only taking 1/2 of a 5mg or sometimes a full 5mg. I have a drug sensitivity so usually 1/2 of the smallest dose will do anything for me.

Either way, my doctor prescribed it to me years ago because I have had insomnia since childhood. They said unisom, Benadryl, Tylenol PM, Dramamine, and one other was safe. I am suspicious to take anything for an extended period of time though. Doctors also prescribe zofran and you have seen the ads for lawsuits on that. I have taken unisom twice and it works if I am really tired already.

For now, I just have to schedule my sleep differently now. Pregnancy makes me tired so I sleep at 8pm to midnight and go right back to sleep and sleep again 3am and watch my shows from 3-5 and then sleep for one more hour on a good night. I can get anywhere from 4-8 hours of sleep.

If it gets worse I will talk to my doctor but I want to try to do this pregnancy as drug free as possible. I just try to use the rule that the doctors use: if the benefits outweigh the risks then you do it.

I haven't been able to ween myself off. I've been taking Ambien for 6 years now, and when I became pregnant I tried to stop but struggled. I tried Benadryl and unisom and everything else, but nothing worked. I ended up going long stretches with no sleep until sleep deprivation knocked me out. My ob-gyn and psychiatrist weighed the pros and cons, and have suggested I can continue given my long history using it.
