If you pump before delivery your baby won't get the colostrum that is first to form and is the most nutrient rich food for them in their crutial first few days.

Plus nipple stimulation can cause labor. So if you start pumping or stimulating your breast too early you could cause preterm labor which can be harmful.

I've been told by all four of my OBGYNs that it is not recommended, can cause labor, the amount that you would be pumping is close to none and would most likely end up in pump parts instead etc... I would talk to your doctor since every physician and case is different but wouldn't try anything at all until I spoke with a doctor.

Yes depending on how far you are and the reason behind it... I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes just recently.. my mid wife and diabetes specialist told me that at around 36weeks I may have to pump my colostrum/milk and freeze it all for the baby when she arrives.. so by their recomendations you can... its so when she arrives they can control her blood glucose levels easier and she shouldnt have to be admitted to NICU they did say it can cause labor tho.. I'm 29+4 weeks so I'll wait and see what they recomend closer to 36weeks thats best for bubs :) if there is not a medical reason behind why your doing it and you haven't been guided through it, definitely dont do it! It's not worth the risk of triggering preterm labor without medical advice..

My milk hasn't come in at all, 33 weeks and no sign of it.. I heard that can be normal though and it doesn't happen until baby arrives for some?
