Longest Period I Have Ever Had- What's Wrong?

I started my period on the 19th of March and it was "officially" over on the 25st, but I still had lots of spotting and now I'm heavy again (as it would be the first day of my cycle) and I have the worst cramps in my back and stomach. I am on the pill, but I missed a couple of days here and there throughout my pack. I would just like to know why I have my period again in this short of a time period in between cycles. Any answers or theories would be appreciated.

I was having a period every 7 days and my doctor told me it has to do with the amount of light when you sleep because your period is synced with the moons cycle. I live by a hospital and there's always bright lights coming through the curtains during the week and on the weekends its less busy so there's not as much light. My body thought the extra light during the week was a full moon so it adjusted my cycle to match that. I got black out shades and open them a sliver during the full moon and now my cycles back to normal.
