Do you remain friends with a Ex's family?

Question

I resently broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years and his family still want me to be friends with them but not sure if it's a good idea? I think if I do it's going to be harder to get over my ex. But then again I grew up with his family and have a very strong bond. Comment your answer.

For me when I broke up with my high school sweetheart I had to make a clean break of everyone to get over my ex. After we broke up I remained friends with his mom and sister but it hurt hearing things about him so I made the decision to stop talking to his family and it was much easier to move on I guess do what feels right got you.

I stayed friends with my ex's family my husband thinks its odd, but they really had an influence on my life, the first place I felt wanted and the feel of family, even if my ex is everyone single horrible thing that you dont want in a guy, but actually it was his parents who helped convince me it was time to run, they said they wish they could trade him for me lol

It's one of the suckiest parts of a breakup- having to breakup with your ex's friends and family- but trying to carry on having a friendship can cause unnecessary difficulties for your ex, and for their family. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but hopefully everyone can understand the risk to your feelings and your ex's too.

Yes I do have good relationship with some of them specially his mom !!! Her and my boyfriend work together and she loves him to death!!!!

No, but mostly because I did not know them well. However, if you have a god relationship with some of the members I don't see the harm. It shows a good deal of maturity

Im friends with my exes sister. She's a very great mom and I look up to her a lot. She is my daughters aunt and maybe if I didn't have a kid with her brother I wouldn't be as close to her as I am but she really is a good person.

I think if you choose to stay in contact you have to walk a delicate line. I knew a guy whos ex kept in touch with his family after she dumped him and one day he came home to find her in his living room sharing how her new bf had gotten her pregnant. He was crushed. I think you need to handle the situation with care. Don't hang out with his family when he's around unless he is OK with it. Don't bring around any new guys until he's moved on as well. 
Little things. Remember, they may be your friends but they are his family first.
