Whooping cough vaccine

Debbie • 1st time mammy
When are you offered the whooping cough vaccine. My mum says I've had all my childhood immunisations but I think I'm just in the age bracket where they stopped routinely immunising kids for it. A colleague at work had whooping cough and was off work for weeks. She was coughing so much it would literally make her vomit. I don't want my baby to catch it and it's doing the rounds amongst all the school kids as is croup.

I wasn't offered it I had to ask my self for it and I'm sure that's standard procedure now you have to ask your self when you hit 28 weeks.

I'm 28wks now.....my next appt is at 31-think I'll ask for it then. I'd rather me get the vaccine than baby catch the disease. It's horrible enough symptoms for fit & healthy adults never mind a tiny baby.

I was offered at my 8week appointment but declined as I don't believe it is worth the hassle after reading into this years vaccinations the new strain is less affective then in previous vaccinations .

I've already had the flu jab. I got it in September literally the week before I fell pregnant.

You should be offered flu jag and a whooping cough jag but you must be at least 28 weeks pregnant for the whooping cough jag.

I had whooping cough two years ago so didn't need the vaccine as my body now produces the antibodies on its own. However, I think it would've been given at 28 weeks. Definitely ask if you haven't been given it. I was off work for six months and could barely get out of bed for most of that as the coughing gave me post-viral exhaustion. I had days where I thought I would never feel better and a ten minute walk meant two days in bed to recover. I can't bear to think about how a baby would suffer.

I was offered it at 29 weeks and had it at 31 weeks, it was a bit sore like the flu just but certainly didn't make me poorly, and bubz is protected til a few weeks after birth now 😌
