My question is: how long do think you should wait (if you think you should wait) to post on Facebook a memoir or tribute to a loved one that passed away?

My great aunt passed away yesterday and my cousins posted tributes on Facebook for her hours after she passed and before anyone was able to notify all family members of her passing over the phone or in person. It was so hard to find out via social media that she passed. Have person to person communication traditions died?
