Doppler question

I'm 11+2 and recieved my doppler today :) I was curious - I can find my placenta (swooshing sound right?) but can't find heartbeat. I'm not stressing or freaking out about it. Just curious about it all - I've watched videos and such. How do you ladies know when you're close? I'm taking a break from it for a bit and will try again later!
