Would you give your baby milk from a milk bank?

I'm thinking about donating breast milk to a local milk bank...but it got me thinking...I'm not sure if I would give my baby someone else's breast milk. Would you?

When you donate breast milk they do a back ground screen on mom and then the milk is tested throughly. I actually think is a wonderful thing for women who cannot produce milk. Just make sure you are with a good company. My local hospital actually has a breast milk bank.

I would. We give our kids cow milk and all other sorts of stuff from different animals. Why wouldn't you give something your baby needs from the same species?

I see nothing wrong with the practice. Human milk of any kind is bound to be better for baby than powder made in a factory.

However, I don't think I could or would do it myself.

It does help, espically if a mom cant produce her own.. I used it when my daughter was born at 24 weeks and wasnt making my own fir the first week.. They scan it and make sure there are no drugs or any type of diseases..

I am in love with the idea of doing this if I produce enough. I have read {including MANY personal accounts from mothers who have utilized milk banks} that when you donate, your milk goes mostly to very very sick babies. Babies born way prematurely or with sicknesses. So those moms know that breast milk is the best thing for their baby because it has so many things formula can't provide. Also, a lot of those babies have very sensitive stomachs and wouldn't be able to handle formula anyways. So if it was the best thing for my baby, hell yes I would use another woman's breast milk.

Nope I couldn't because I don't know exactly where it it came from. I'd much rather formula feed.

I guess I would have to do research on this to be able to make an informed decision. Are milk banks like blood banks, where they are tested for certain things that can be harmful to the recipient?

No. If I can't breastfeed my child, then they will get formula. If I actually knew the person supplying the milk, I might consider it, but definitely no to a milk bank.

No... I'm sure they take a lot of precautions but I just don't think I could bring myself to do it.
