Breastfeeding with nippie rings?

So I've had my nippies pierced for about 4 years now, I've been told I can breastfeed with them and some have said I have to remove them. I don't necessarily want to remove them if it isn't absolutely necessary because they hurt SO bad getting them and going through the healing process. Anyone here have them and kept them in?

I nursed my daughter and I cannot imagine having a nipple ring in during the first 2-4 weeks of nursing.  It sounds like pure tourture. The bond you will receive from breastfeeding will totally be worth the loss of nipple jewelry.

There's a nipple shield you can try to use to help the baby latch if you plan on breastfed. I assume it may be ok to use since the nipple ring wouldn't be in the baby's mouth.

Obviously you don't want to put the ring in the baby's mouth when they are trying to eat. (That just seems like common sense to me).

But also- when your milk comes in - you will feel so engorged that the rings probably won't feel good being in either (so much pressure from behind). Milk will also want to come out the holes from the ring. Which could cause bacteria to build up. If your breasts get infected- you won't be able to breastfeed at all.

You can keep them you just cannot keep them in while breastfeeding. You will have to take them out and put them in each time. That's why a lot of people I know choose to take them out and not bother with them. I took them out knowing for me it wasn't worth it because mine were extremely sensitive before and even more after so it just wasn't for me to keep and constantly deal with.

Not to be scary, but babies can rip nipple rings even before they have teeth. And then when teeth come, there has been more than one mom who accidentally got 'pierced' by baby :) the metal hardware could have the same affect on little one's new tooth enamel as a tongue ring.

I don't think that would be possible nor would I want them in knowing how sore they get in the first few weeks.

I'm worried I won't be able to on one side because I previously had them and one ripped out :( the one I TOOK out should be fine I'm worried when the one that ripped out healed it sealed the natural hole :( it has me in a panic but idk

That was my problem, taking them out and putting them back in will be a hassle. I know once I start breastfeeding the sensitivity of them will rise so much, they are already extremely sensitive as it is. I will never feel the same without them lol but they may have to go.

I'm sure you can keep them, I would just obviously take the piercing out while you're actually breastfeeding and then put it back in when you're done.
