You don't have to think about it. You don't wonder or worry. You just know. Even when my husband is being an arse I know he loves me and cares deeply for me. It's not something I have ever questioned.

You won't have to ask.. you will know

When it seems silly for him to say it, because every day he shows it. Everyone shows it differently so you have to know how he communicates. My husband hugs everyone, but he loves being lazy after work, and also doesn't like picking out things for other people because he thinks he has poor taste. I know he cares about me because he does the dishes and built me a fence so I could have a garden, and he never complains about it. If I was looking for him to show affection by buying me gifts then I'd be judging him on the wrong criteria. But as someone else said, you'll know when you no longer have to wonder.
