Getting induced and very confused

Becky
I went for my 29 week Drs appt and my blood pressure was high again and dr says I will have to be induced at 37 weeks. I am due July 22 which makes my new due date June 30th. I'm so confused as to how it can be 22 days earlier than he's been saying. I've been having really bad Braxton hicks contractions for the past 5 days now and told him and he said i shouldn't be feeling pain until 30 weeks. Like I just don't understand. I sooooo didn't want to be induced. Can someone explain why I need to be? I know it's unhealthy for the baby for my blood pressure to be high but what exactly does it do to the baby?

High blood pressure is very common in pregnancy due to the increase in blood volume and fluids you have.  The problem is, high blood pressure can lead to more serious problems such as strokes or seizures in mom, and it actually decrease blood flow to the placenta so your baby gets fewer nutrients.  There are 2 different reasons for high BP as well.  1 is just because the increased fluids, the other is due to preeclampsia.  Preeclampsia is more serious.  If you simply have high blood pressure you can talk to your doctor about taking a BP reducing medication.  To treat preeclampsia you must deliver the baby because the source of the problem is the hormones produced by the placenta.  I currently have high BP only and have been prescribed labetolol.  It has brought my bp down significantly but my bp is expected to go back up as the pregnancy progresses, at which time we will induce.  Good luck!!!

High blood pressure while pregnant is gestational hypertension. IfIt doesn't get under control it can harm your organs and lead to your baby being born premature and have a really low birthweight.

Extremely high blood pressure can be fatal to you and baby if not taken care of. I would talk to your Dr for clarification but I think induction sounds like the best choice, especially if you have preeclampsia.

I would ask your doctor to clarify.
