Having a water birth?

Question

I'm thinking about having a water birth, pros and cons about it? Who has had one before?? 😊

I swore up and down that I would NEVER!!! Get in the tub because I hate baths! With my second baby my midwife encouraged me to try it because the heat and water help soften tissue, etc... I got in telling myself I'd try it, I wouldn't like it and I would get out to deliver. I hated it for about a minute or two because my body kept floating and I couldn't seem to hold still. BUT THEN I had another contraction and when I wanted to change positions to relieve my pain I barely moved my shoulders and my whole body could easily rotate to a new position without any effort! So I decided to stay until I was ready to push and then get out to avoid the "mess" of delivery. Forget that! There was no way I was going to get out! The mess wasn't that bad and I had that baby in half the time of my first and with maybe 1/4 the amount of pain!  I've had two more babies with water births and now swear that I'll never have a baby out of the tub of at all possible! I'm looking forward to delivering baby #5 in the tub :)

Same as Heidi, I was adamant my entire pregnancy I would not step foot in the water! I hate the cold wet feeling, and didn't want to feel uncomfortable while giving birth! So I went into labour on the early Sunday morning, thought nothing about water! First visit too maternity ward, only 1cm, "go home" they said. Second visit 2cm "go home" they said. So by this point I was gutted and in pain! So I tried having a bath to relax as I would at home, I was in there for 8 hours :).... So third time in the maternity ward, 3cm! I could finally go up to the birthing centre :D they asked what I'd been doing at home to cope with pain and told them I'd been in the bath and they offered to run one for me, so I said yes BUT I am NOT having her in there! When the time came to pushing I wouldn't move, and there she was! Unless for medical reasons I will never have a "dry-land" birth, i was in heaven! (Although I think the gas and air put me there) :D xx

I've been in water for labour but couldn't deliver in there. I went from being told I needed an epidural to chopping really well.
