Colic babies? 😁

Anyone having trouble with colicy babies? Pierce is giving me a run for my money, I love him to death but I'm so exhausted. He's on acid reflux medicine 3 times a day, prescription gas drops, and he's still miserable, on top of everything he has a cold and a snotty nose which makes him super fussy! Also he has no eating or sleeping g schedule, he does what he wants. I dont know how to get him on a schedule? He's up all night!! Anyone else having trouble? Any suggestions?

He looks like a happy baby but these crying spells are so tiring!!

Have you ever heard of the book The Happiest Baby on the Block? There is a DVD version, but the book explains the Dr.'s (The author) theory about colic - the fourth trimester (he explains why he believes in this theory, and why it's not caused by "gas" or any other theory).
Anyway, he explains that babies (0-3 months) have what is calm a calming reflex, and this calming reflex can be triggered using the five S's:
-Swaddling. Nice and tight with arms straight down baby's side. SwaddleMe products I find very useful and keeps baby's hands down (and not be a little Houdini).
-Side/Stomach lying. Babies have the Moro reflex, which is that feeling like you're falling, and can be triggered by back lying. Holding baby on side or stomach can help alleviate that feeling.
-Shhhhing. Shhhing makes it sound like baby is back in utero. Shush right into baby's ear. Match the intensity to baby's cry (louder the crying, louder the shhhhing)
-Swinging. Bounce/Swing baby. Like above, match intensity of baby's cry (he also goes into Shaken Baby Syndrome, NEVER *shake* a baby).
-Sucking. Either on breast, paci or finger.

You don't have to do all five S's at once; start with one and add onto it until baby has settled (this is assuming you have exhausted other means of calming baby, like feeding and/or changing her).

The DVD shows you the techniques and how to properly do them; the book explains the techniques WAY better than what I did above and explains the "why".

Hey girls. Pierce finally got over the colic, I think! He's sleeping better at night, usually from 9-10 to 2, then 3-5:30 or 6. He still has tons of gas but his little belly doesn't hurt him like it used to. He's still on reflux meds and gas drops but seems a lot more comfortable. He's on Gerber good start soothe now and doing well, he does spit up, some days are better than others.

This is how my baby was! We finally changed her formula for the 4th time and she has been great since! Nutramigen is what it's called. She sleeps all night and is a happy baby all day!

God help all mamas with colicky babies!!! My thoughts are constantly with you guys. I can't imagine what you guys must go through

Ah nightmare! It's hard when they cry and you can't do anything to console them. Colic babies thrive on routine, they need to know what's coming. As soon as you wake in the morning for the day wash him and do a baby massage for as long as he will allow. Once he's dressed give him his feed in your lounge or wherever you spend most if the day. Once fed do the usual burping etc and really make sure you get some good burps as it just makes colic so much worse, I would then try and get him to sleep.for half an hour at least or longer if he will do it. Then when he wakes next try him in play mat etc. Try and have brief phases of play as if he gets overtired he will be so much worse. I don't know how you feel about pacifiers but a lot of colic babies really need to suck and this can be super soothing for them. Also play some white noise if he isn't settled. I would try and let him sleep as much as u can, even in the day because he will actually sleep better at night as he won't become
Overtired. All of the medication should be helping him. I'm sure you've don't the car rides and walks in the stroller to calm him down. Good luck! Hopefully things settle soon. Then before bed, change him into jammies with a brief massage and
Low sounds with dim lighting. Give him a feed and pop him in bed.

Oliver is colicky and it's been really tough. During the day we're lucky if he takes one 2 hour long nap but usually he'll take a few 30 minute naps. We took him off of Zantac because a doctor told us if we didn't see an improvement to just stop it all together. I'm almost positive I have an overactive milk supply which I've read can cause colic symptoms. He's very gassy that's really the main reason he cries. I'm pretty exhausted and sometimes I just have to pull myself together to deal with it all. No matter how frustrated I am though his little face makes it all better.

I'm sorry Kayla :-/ Iris doesn't have colic but she does have gas which results in random bouts of screaming for 30 seconds to a minute, throughout the day and night. She also eats about every hour all day long, but only for 10 minutes at a time. If I try to get her to eat more she gets fussy, then spits up a LOT. She also has absolutely no schedule and I have no idea how to go about getting her on one! Would love to hear from mommies who've gotten their babies on a schedule.

For the past almost three weeks my son has been extremely fussy, he's either crying or nursing and it's getting to me! Idk what is wrong with him, I've been thinking he has reflux, I know he has gas, but he spits up ALL DAY even if I hold him upright and burp him. He spits up after every feeding and it's usually a lot and he spits up randomly through the day. He gets really fussy at night and early in the morning because of gas. Was going to talk to his dr at our appointment yesterday, but they messed it up and we couldn't get back in until next week 😒
