Dental Assistants?

I just found out I'm pregnant! :) Due in January. I work as a dental assistant, and I'm wondering when is too soon to tell my boss the news. I'm just worried about being around nitrous and radiation and anything else. Any other assistants out there?

You should tell your boss right away. I know the laughing gas that they give can be dangerous to women who are pregnant.

I'm a dentist! It's totally your choice whether or not you want to assist with nitrous or not and everyone has a different opinion! Some say it's fine, some say as long as there is a scavenger system, some say you should not in your first trimester. 
I am currently pregnant and do administer nitrous with a scavenger system but I do try to avoid it if possible and it's totally my choice. If you were my dental assistant I would want to know so that we could talk about your decision!

I work in the automotive industry (heavy duty truck parts) and I told my manager yesterday due to occasional strenuous heavy lifting, contact with chemicals, etc. I was hesitant and she didn't take the news well (apparently I'm a huge "liability" now) but I'm sure your manager will be completely different about it. It's definitely better safe than sorry in this situation! I would tell her, in private.

I'm a dental assistant too and my midwife said assisting during nitrous is fine as long as you have a scavenger system

Long, round about reply:  My dentist is fairly  young and inherited the practice from his father ( both whom are phenomenal pysicians ). Because he inherited the practice it is fairly large and he has at least 10 assistants , half have been there since I was 10 (I'm 34) and the others are younger women. In the last 6 years I have seen 3 of them go thru full term pregnancies. Drs. Knight are incredibly kind and conciensious doctors (both with 4+ children). If there werent ways for you to safely continue your job,  Im positive they wouldn't employ these women well into their 3rd trimesters. Due to radiation and respect I think you should tell your employer, asap, in confidence of you must.  As a doctor he could certainly understand you wanting to keep your privacy. ...for now.  Sorry my 2 cents was more like 75. Congratulations!
