Bleeding after abortion

I had an abortion due to health reasons. Please i dont want any rude comment i just need help. Since i have gotten the abortion i have been bleeding for 6 weeks. I was 8 weeks at the time when everything happened. And ive read that every woman experiences their miscarriage or abortion differently. But is this normal to bleed for almost 6-7 weeks?? Should i be worried? The first 3/4 weeks were heavy and then the 5th week was spotting and the 6th week is almost like a period but with some spotting here and there. My doctor did say i was able to take the birth control after i see her for the second time. Would it be the birth control to effect the bleeding? If i stopped taking the birth control would the bleeding stop?
