When to see the doc/midwife

So I have two appointments, the first at 8 weeks with a maternity counselor. At this appointment I get to go pee so they can confirm pregnancy then get to speak with a nurse about any questions we have and what to expect. 2nd appointment is at 12 weeks with my midwife to again confirm and have first ultrasound. Does this sound like a normal schedule? Seems like every posted I read ladies are getting in sooner to confirm pregnancy and have ultrasounds to see if things are progressing as normal. This is pregnancy number two 5wk 2 days we had a miscarriage at 4wk 5 days in March. Just doesn't feel right not going in sooner after having a past miscarriage. It has been a relief knowing that we made it longer than last time, but would like some reassurances.
