Pull Ups?

I am not planning on using pull ups when my son gets to that point, I want him going straight from diapers to underwear. In my personal opinion, I believe pull ups only hinder potty training. They are basically the same thing as a diaper. I could see using them at night maybe, but why go from a diaper to something extremely similar? It seems kind of pointless to me. A relative of mine still uses pull ups for her 8 year old and 6 year old, she started them and hasn't been able to stop, so she is now buying pulls ups for 3 children (she has a toddler as well). While a friend of mine never used pull ups, went straight to underwear and her son is fully potty trained and only wears underwear, same for her daughter. Just wondering what everyone else's opinions on this are!

I went right from diapers to undies for my son. He was 3. We bought a plastic cover for his mattress and even plastic undies to go over his real undies. He didn't like the plastic undies so he night trained himself. Best decision I've ever made!

Its a money grab. Let the kid have a few accidents. There is no need to pay all that money instead of cleaning up a few wet beds. You could also stick a puppy training pad under the sheet your kid sleeps on. That way, if an accident does occur you can just change the kid and the sheets and go back to bed.

My baby cousin I was taking care of pooped really bad in the car when we were right outside the house and he told no one he had to go he was almost 4 and it was like his butt exploded in the back seat (thank goodness it was leather) I took him inside and made him stand in the bathroom and wait for me. And I grabbed ever diaper/pull-up I saw and marched right into the bathroom and threw them away in front of him. While I gave him a shower I told him he was big boy and he can only wear big boy undies from now on. No more baby diapers. And he never had an accident. One day potty training. So hell no for pull-up. Waste of money.

Depends on the child.  Works with some kids, doesn't work with others. 
We used diapers on my son until he was actually going by himself and knew when he had to go, because changing poopy pull-ups are annoying (you can't wrap them up like diapers!) 
Now that he is potty trained for the most part we only use pull-ups at night or long car trips where he might fall asleep.

We have only ever used them at night. My son is a drinker, he just can't handle night times without one. We did go straight from diaper to underwear though at all other times. He is 3 and has been potty trained for a year. He has just now started trying to get up during the night to use the bathroom but we still have a ways to go!

They won't like messing themselves. It only takes a few times before they make the connection. But if they know it won't make a mess, I could see how pull ups would hinder potty training.

My son wore pull ups for only a year day and night, and then we slowly weaned him off the night time ones over the course of 3/4 months and we tried doing it a couple times but he'd end up wetting the bed when we did so we gave him more time. Started potty training him when he was 2 1/2 almost 3, he was fully potty trained by the time he was 4.

I used pull ups for both my sons with no issues. They both potty trained fine. I can't imagine all the extra laundry I would have had and public accidents if we'd gone straight to underwear.

I did recently have to start buying them again for my six year old. But we moved and the stress from that has caused sporadic bed wetting so he wears them at night for added security.

My nephew lives with us now and we are getting ready to make the transition to pull ups for potty training. So I'm hoping it works well for him too.

Hated them! Spent more on pull ups than on diapers and got less in each package. My son used them as diapers, they felt the same. I quit using them after 2 weeks and went to regular underwear, he was potty trained in 2 days. I'll never buy them again!
