Baby momma asking for more money on top of child support

My bf kid's mom asked him for money for his kids clothes. He told her he can go buy them clothes (because he doesn't want to just hand her cash). She is now really mad at him. He asks me if he made the right decision, but I feel it's not my place. Should he just hand her the cash or just stick to what he said, and offer to buy what they need himself?
