Sleepovers at grandparents? Long post.

Question

Okay so I myself am not a parent yet but my brother in law is (husbands brother). He has a toddler and an infant. Him and his wife let the toddler go to his paternal grandparents house every weekend. More often than not friday to sunday. This has been going on for about a 1.5+ years. Before during and after the infant was born grandma had the toddler for maybe 3 weeks straight. I feel like dad working a full time job he doesnt get but dinner and bedtime with the kid and weekends off. When I decide to have children I feel like they will be loved less because grandparents wont see my children 12 give or take days a month. 
What I'm asking is it normal to have that much time spent at grandparents house?

Every family is different, and i would suggest not being so judgemental.  For my family, my daughters go to their Grandmas every weekend during the Summer.  My mom really wants them, and wants a relationship with them.  I LOVE having the break.  For us we did not start it until they were 1.  But to each their own.

That's a lot of time to be away from their children, especially since they're so young. Personally, I don't like for my kids to be gone for more than one night, and they never slept over at their grandmom's until they were around 5 years old. But, that's just me. I realize some people need more help, or need breaks more often. As long as the kids are happy and healthy, it really doesn't matter.

My kids sleep over at my parents one night a month but would probably go more if they didn't have weekends at their dad's. I think it's important for bonding & my parents won't be around forever. I feel there should be a limit tho bc my sister sends hers almost every weekend. I sometimes feel a little jealous hers spend more time with them but I try not to & can't really judge bc I get breaks when mine go to their dad's. It all depends on what works for your situation & what makes the kids & grandparents happy.

I think your over thinking it and I wouldn't stress out over something that doesn't really need your concern every parent is different grand parents are not around forever when I was lil I spent a lot of weekends at my grandmas house I actually looked coward to it as a kid it's good for them to have a bond

My stepson sleeps overs his grandparents house probably once a month, and that's if his grandad is going fishing and he wants to bring him along.

I was with my grandmother a lot as a child. My mum was single and working full time, and couldn't afford me. I spent 2 years at a time. But I understand your worry, as we are in the same boat at the moment. MIL pays more attention to Eldest than miss1 because Eldest is there every weekend, and has been since birth.

It really depends on the person though. My grandmother was great with both my brother, cousins and I, even though I was there all the time, I don't feel i was favorited.. Where miss1 barely knows her paternal grandmother..

No, I see my grandma once or twice a month. But, my children will see their grandparents more than that. 
But, I wouldn't want my baby/toddler spending the night away from me until he/she was a little older. 
Seems like they push the baby off on grandma and grandpa but that's just my opinion

I mean, you don't REALLY know what their situation is.
I was with my grandma the majority of the time until I was about 4 because my mom and dad both worked a day job and a night job. We also spent a lot of time over there as a family because my parents were young and having my grandma was just really helpful for all of us. Even as a teenager, I would go visit my grandma and grandpa every single day because they were just my best friends. 
My fiancé stayed with {and eventually lived with} his grandparents because his mom's husband was abusing them and she didn't want him to be abused anymore or have to see her getting abused. 
However, some 'friends' of ours send their 4month old to his grandma's every weekend so that they can smoke pot and take Xans. And my uncle sends his kids off just because he and his wife are tired of dealing with them.

So there could be a million reasons why and you could never know for sure.
