Exam?

Question

So my dr. Has barely checked during my third trimester to tell me effacement or dilation. I'm 36 weeks today and we already said we would have to do a c section due to medical issues I have. Should I ask him to check me if her doesn't or just leave it alone. I really wanna know if I'm dilated at all but I don't want to offend him by telling him how to do his job.

My doctor doesn't check til you are at your due date. There's really no point as you could be stuck at 1-3cm for weeks. It's invasive and not worth the infection risk. However, if you want a natural delivery rather than a section there's no harm in asking.

"Dr. Smith, I'm curious about whether or not I've dilated at all. Would it be reasonable to check?"

Then he has the chance to either agree, or explain why he doesn't think it makes sense.

Mine offers, but explains that it's not predictive of the onset of labor and wouldn't change anything they do, so it's up to me.
