If you are in a healthy relationship and  plan on eventually getting married, I'd say his last name. But if your relationship is on the rocks or not together I would give the baby your last name. It's not about which name sounds better, it's who's actually there for the child

I say hyphenate it! My last name was hyphenated when I was born, because my parents weren't married and even though I am married, I will hyphenate my children's last name. I took my husbands last name when I got married but only if our children would have both our last names. But honestly the fact that he is considering breaking up with you over this is ridiculous.

My friend is giving her daughter her and her boyfriends hyphenated last name but that's for legal purposes because he may end up in jail after some charges are being brought against him, so she's able to travel and make legal decisions for her daughter, and if/when they get married they will drop her part of the last name and just have his. I gave my son my DH last name and our daughter I plan on giving his last name because I plan on either changing my name legally if we don't get married, or if we do then I'll change my name when we're married. I've never really considered any other option. I personally don't like my last name. My DH is the oldest, and his younger brother won't have any children, his dad was an only child and died in a car accident 8 years ago so it's also a matter of carrying on his last name, and my last name can be carried on by my brother if someone ever has kids with him when he grows up lol.
