Prenatal Vitamins: OTC vs Prescription?

Any thoughts? I got a prescription for prenatal vitamins because my doctor said it was important when TTC - especially the Folic acid. But it was $60 for a month supply!! I see them at the store for $10-15 with plenty of folic acid. Should I just get the cheap ones?

Don't have to be rx to be good, but do be sure to get one with folate (natural form)  instead of folic acid (synthetic).

Don't buy "cheap ones," but yes, buy prenatals that cost less but are USP certified. The only advantage I see for prescription prenatals is if your insurance covers it, and you get them for free.

Yes, plant based are best on tummy and more easily absorbed by your body, meaning you retain more of the nutrients than you pee out. Same with folate versus folic acid. Folic acid is found nowhere in nature, there for your body has a hard time absorbing it. In summary: plant based with folate are the best, but they don't come cheap. If you're interested I can tell you the brand I take, recommended by my naturopath and I purchased on Amazon for $50
