Most std/I's cannot be seen or have long incubation periods so visuals will not help.

Practice safe sex at all times.

Always use condoms. Get tested regularly, most people don't have symptoms and they don't automatically test when you have a pelvic exam, you need to ask for testing.

I required std tests for all partners. Never had a one night stand or quickie with someone I was not in a relationship with. I did have a guy cheat on me which scared me. I wore condoms too though.

I'm sorry but did you really ask how to avoid it? Come on condoms are the best if you're having sex but the most certain way is to not have sex. ..birth control doesn't help prevent any STD just fyi

My ex gave me an STI. I got treatment for it and am now clean and healthy. I refused to do anything with him until he got tested and showed me his results etc. (I showed him both of my results one shortly before we got together and the one when we were together.) He did go to the doc but refused to show me his results. Shortly after that he blew up on me over stupid stuff so I left (I wouldn't do anything with him and he claimed I was a B**** etc.) I am not about to catch something from a guy who can't keep his stuff in his pants you know?

My partner and I are monogamous. We do not use condoms though, so we are currently both taking antibiotics to clear up an infection.
