Big Baby?! Little concerned...

Question

Is there anything else that can cause a baby to big besides gestational diabetes? My doctor is having me do a sono in 2 weeks because she said the baby is big. So again anything else that can cause this?

For some reason this I a very common "concern" now a days. There is absolutely no risk whatsoever with having a big baby. If you're planning to have a natural birth, please do research and get educated before that next ultrasound. Doctors are pressured to bring in the most revenue to hospitals and the best way is by giving C-sections to perfectly healthy moms. That's why his trend of telling mothers that their babies are too big is spreading so drastically. I have a friend who had a perfect pregnancy with her daughter and was told that she was going to be too big and was scheduled for a c-section, when the baby was born she was only 8 pounds a perfectly healthy girl her body could have delivered naturally. She now regrets getting talked into a c-section. All I'm saying is that you should get educated and be prepared.

2% milk can cause overweight babies. That's why WIC only does 1% now... Also having the baby go past your due date.

Gaining to much weight can cause baby to put on extra weight. My second was 9 lbs 11 oz. I'm worried about this one too.

My first two were 8 lb 15 oz and 8 lb 14 oz. I didn't have GD with either. Both deliveries were vaginal without any complications/problems. Some people just have big babies. My husband's birth weight was over 8 lbs and I mine was 8 lbs 14 oz. I think that has a factor as well.

My husband's family has big babies, our babies are big, and I've heard countless stories from friends and family of grandmothers/mothers/friends delivering 10-14 lb babies. I'm not sure why it is a "concern" from doctors these days but as long as you and baby are healthy (and don't have undiagnosed GD or anything) your body won't make a baby "too big." :)

My best friend just has big babies. She said nurses always asked her when she was pregnant if she had GD. I think some people are just good at growing babies :)

My babies were all big 10.2 , 9.4 and 9. This one is already 3.5 pounds at 28 weeks so I'm not worried

My doctor is expecting a big baby for me too. At 27 weeks I was measuring at 32 weeks. I go for a growth scan on the 16th, I have one every 3-4 weeks. My GD test came back negative and have only gained 7lbs. Based off my last growth scan, the baby is measuring about 3 weeks bigger, but apparently I have a really big placenta that is causing me to be even bigger as well. That could be it as well? Or even a lot of fluid?
