I have refused to have male doctors ever since I was 5 or 6. I have had several over the years, but just never felt as comfortable as when I have females. I currently have a female doctor for everything accept my neurologist. I'm not happy about it but my area doesn't have any female neurologists. I absolutely refuse to have a male gynecologist and would be willing to drive as far as I need to find a female, but I am lucky enough to have one just a few miles away from my house. I don't trust men to look at or diagnose a problem with a part of the body they don't have. Plus since women have different hormones, medicines react differently with our bodies. I will always trust a woman to give me better medical advice about my own body then a man.

I used to only want female OBGYN's, but since getting pregnant this time and having a male dr, I really love him and realized I don't care either way!  I love my female midwife, and i love my male OB :) For a regular doctor, I prefer males. I feel like they listen better and aren't as challenging when it comes to my own opinions and wants.

For any other type of doctor I don't mind, but for my obgyn I prefer female, just because I feel like they are more likely to be able to relate to what I am experiencing.

I agree with the female obgyn , they understand what it's like to have a uterus and ovaries lol. They seek to get it

I just don't trust men in a situation like that. I know it's not rational, but I can't help it. All my Dr's are women. Ob, family medicine, dentist, therapist, etc. I don't feel like Dr men listen to me or believe me or want to help me. And I KNOW in my head that that is silly and nuts! But I can't help it. Call it a phobia.

You won't get to choose if you have a baby, you'll just get assigned one when you go into labour.

Even if you choose your doctor there's always a chance of emergency and you may get a back up or fill in doctor. But it is likely you would meet them first.

She just specified that she's in the UK, Jocelyn. This is a global app, and I've noticed as Americans we tend to think everything and everyone here is talking about situations in the US. People from other countries shouldn't have to specify country of origin in their comments, most of us in the US certainly don't. If people want to know where they are at, they can ask.

I have a make family dr, absolutely love him, I recently had to see an obgyn for cyst issues and surgery and have chosen her for my female health. She's amazing. Both are competent and I feel very comfortable with both. My family dr delivers his own babies so he knows us very well.

I've had male and female obgyns. It's no big deal.
