Cervical length

Katelyn • Expecting #2 in September
Hi,
I'd like to preface this by saying I'm not high risk and hope I don't offend by posting this question in here, but I figured you ladies may know a little more about this topic than others. Here it goes,
I'm not sure that cervical checks are routine, but I have a family history of preterm labor (I was born at 25 weeks) so my doctor has done 2 cervical checks.
The first was 15 weeks (I was also experiencing light sporting) transvaginal and I was at 4.5 cm. Second was my anatomy scan at 18 weeks (I'm measuring closer to 19 or 20) and this was done transabdominaly, cervix has gone to 3.7 cm.
My doctor didn't seem the least bit concerned and said that they don't worry until it's under 2.5cm, but this seems a little low for 18 weeks.
I don't have another apt until July 2nd so I'm a little nervous. Does anyone have experience with this?
I've read that transabdominal ultrasounds aren't good indicators of cervical length and can make it seem shorter than it is. I'm just very worried as I came so early even after my mother had a cerclage.
My doctor hasn't given me any instructions to stay off my feet, avoid sex or anything.
Is the shortening normal since the baby is getting bigger? Is this even accurate due to the different ways of measurement? Is 3.7 cm normal at this stage?
Thanks ladies
