Can dad get full custody?

Question

I live in NH currently with my babies father. Lately he's been more aggravated and says a lot of hurtful things. He told me then other day that he was going to leave and he was going to get full custody to which I said good luck. I used to be a self harmer, NOT anymore. He seems to think that he could win the court over by somehow proving I'm crazy. Is this possible?

I would say there is not much he can do he can fight to get full custody but usually its hard for fathers to do that unless they have legitimate proof that the mother is unstable. I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about most of the times guys are all talk but when it comes down to it they really would not want to take care of a baby themselves. He is probably just saying it to be hurtful.

Hello! I'm a florida attorney. It's tough to say what the outcome would be without knowing NH laws. But, most courts tend to favor shared parental custody. In Florida (not sure if NH does this), sole custody is usually awarded when the judge finds that it is in the best interest of the child to terminate one of the parents' rights (usually because of domestic violence, drug abuse, etc). The behavior is usually pretty egregious. You can try going on Avvo.com and ask lawyers that question for free. It's super useful and you'll be able to get some legal advise from attorneys in your area.

Normally courts try to put children with the mother, unless there is a reason why the mom couldn't provide. Hopefully you two can do it without the courts and make it 50/50 so it's easier on your babies. Good luck!

Lol no...the US is a mother favoring country. Even a good father has a hard time getting full custody of a child with a bad mother. It's a little sad when looked at that way but it's true even if you did drugs or were a alcoholic he would need you to be arrested several times to prove you were unfit. Harming yourself in your younger years does not deem you a unfit mother. Science has proven a child is always better off with their mother and the courts will always follow that. But I'd save all the stuff he says it could aid you should he try to bring you to court over it later.
