Does anyone else get fat shamed when you go to the doctor?

Losing weight is a struggle and it's annoying when I go to the doctor and it the main focus of the visit even when I didn't go for that. 😡

Well, being overweight can cause a LOT of medical problems, or contribute to medical problems. Your body is not made to be overweight. Of course, some doctors are sh*theads and in that case, switch to another. But before you feel shamed for being fat, maybe ask the dr why your weight has a saying, you might be surpriced..

Not sure exactly what your experience was, but most health systems have a wellness requirement includes discussing your BMI at appointments. It's no different than asking if you are a smoker, then they must offer smoking cessation, even if the appointment is not related to that. I wouldn't take it personally!

I'm lucky to have a very understanding doctor, he knows I'm working on it and doesn't push.

I switched doctors because my previous one told me everything about losing weight that I already knew. Told me nothing I couldn't already look up on the internet. I was 20 at the time and he told me my metabolism was starting to slow way down as if I were in my 30s-40s. That was when I called bullsh-t and switched. Turns out my hormones are abnormal.

My husbands has that issue but in fairness his apt are for his hi blood pressure hi cholesterol and sleep apnea which his dr says is caused by his weight this last visit he went to get his pills refilled they gave him a brochure that said food eaters annoymous I was like who gave you this he said the dr I don't know I want to supportive but everything he goes every 3 months they always have a discussion about his weight

When I was 18 I was 5'4 and 122 pounds and my doctor told me I should lose weight. I was already eating a very healthy diet and worked out 5-6 days a week, I was very in shape and by no means fat, or even overweight.

My BMI was completely normal, even though I was obviously quite muscley too. He's a dickhead 💁

Yes. I went to the doctor to get the forms I needed when my child died and for help filling them out and to talk about everything and instead I had a long fat shaming appointment and he did not help me. I do not go to the doctor very often. I've also been told I'm not sick I'm fat if I lost the weight I wouldnt have this lung infection thing. He wouldnt treat me. And I have many more of these. Some from when I actually was hardly overweight. That attitude will not help ANYONE. Anyone going in there to ask for help to lose weight WILL NOT IF THEY ARE BEING BULLIED. It's disgusting
