I don't agree, I think social media is a great step in making the world more of a community. 
If you raise your girl right, #WCW won't seem like the biggest compliment she could receive. Same way that is you raise you boy right, #MCM won't seem like the biggest compliment either.

As an introvert, social media is a great way for me to feel comfortable when putting my opinions and beliefs across. Even everyday conversations I find easier to communicate through social network. 
Shy people, people who suffer from social anxiety, mutes, disabled people all benefit through the easiness of social networking. And to take it away just because you don't think it's an ideal for your child is a closed minded opinion.

I can not imagine the constant struggle of being forced to put yourself out there to make friends or to simply communicate with other people.

I'm not too worried because we don't have to participate in what the rest of the world doing. My kids can tell the difference between a crane fly and a mosquito, they know to leave snapping turtles alone, but they can catch crawfish, they know how to climb trees without falling, we sleep in tents for fun, we read books, we listen to music and they are incredible artists. I'm not keeping them in a bubble I'm showing them everything else the world is to busy to see.
