1 in 25 Caucasians are Cystic Fibrosis carriers. If both you and your partner are carriers then every child you have has a 1 in 4 chance of being born with Cystic Fibrosis. An amnio or CVS can diagnosis the disorder in a fetus.

If my parents though that way, I wouldn't be here. Yes, Cf is hard for everyone involved. You may lose your child. I lived at the hospital for three months and my parents were told I was going to die. But guess what? They didn't lose hope. Give your child a fighting chance before you end his or her life. There are alot of hospital stays, alot of being sick, alot of coughing, alot of therapy. But it's not the worst thing out there. My children will have a chance of inheriting CF from me, but I still want a family. I guess I'm fighting to passionatly about this because I have it. They can live a perfectly normal life even with CF.

Most likely I would. That is my stance without facing the issue. But I can't imagine it would change if I actually had to make that decision.

We had the discussion that if we had a baby with a disease that they could live with without too much intervention we would go with it, however if it had a severe disability we decided we couldn't handle that. I think it's very individual and heartbreaking nonetheless
