Is this a date?

I'm going to the movies with one of my guy friends on Monday. I've known him since the beginning of the year but last semester we only really started talking. School just ended today and I told him we should do something during the summer so he texted me asking if I wanted to go see a movie with him. I agreed and he told me he would buy the tickets but he also said to bring some money (I'm guessing for food). We're seeing a horror movie so he made some jokes about me being scared and sitting on his lap. So is this a date or am I just going with a friend who flirts a lot?
